Hello, this is Harry! How have you been? Last time, we talked about coffee drinks based on milk, and today, I’d like to briefly discuss coffee drinks based on water.
Americano: The Americano originated when Americans started adding water to dilute the strong flavor of Italian espresso. The typical water ratio is about 1:4, but this can vary by café. This classic Americano offers a smoother taste compared to drinking espresso straight, and its flavor can change depending on the espresso used.
Long Black: This is a style of black coffee enjoyed in Australia and New Zealand. While some mention that an Americano has water added later, and a Long Black has espresso poured on top, I personally think the two are made similarly. The main difference lies in the amount of water. In a Long Black, the ratio of espresso to water is about 1:2, and a smaller cup is used, allowing for a richer flavor than an Americano. If you prefer a stronger coffee, I recommend ordering a Long Black.
Iced Americano: This drink consists of espresso added to cold water with ice. It’s perfect for hot weather, as the bitterness and sharpness of the espresso are less pronounced, resulting in a smoother and creamier coffee.
Shakerato: This is an Italian-style iced Americano, named after the word “shaker.” It involves shaking ice, espresso, and your choice of syrup or sugar in a shaker, creating a creamy coffee with rich foam.
Café Misto: This is a lighter coffee than a café latte, with a ratio of espresso, water, and milk around 1:1. This can vary based on personal preference. If you haven’t tried it yet, ordering a Mist could be a fun experience!
